About Ascension

Our flagship program is a conference that we put together with the help of a different local chapter each year. This year, Space Society of London will be hosting Ascension 2016 at the University of Western Ontario from March 5-6. We expect to attract over 50 students from Western and other schools in the surrounding region.

Our conference will feature talks from a variety of speakers in four sessions:

  • Space Technology
  • Training for Space
  • Space Competitions and Entrepreneurship
  • Canada’s Space Sector - Opportunities for Students

More than the average conference filled with talks however, our event is also a platform to host engaging competitions and discussions, which makes a more meaningful impact on student attendees. Our activities include:

  • Young Space Leaders Roundtable - an informal exchange/discussion between Presidents of our chapters and other space clubs
  • Young Space Entrepreneurs Competition - a business plan competition for students at Canadian schools with a focus on space
  • SkyPixels - our astrophotography competition
  • A recruitment session where students can talk to companies and organizations
  • Elections for the 2016-7 Board of Directors at SEDS-Canada
